Godfrey's Ear welcomes readers of the Belper Town Guide!

Hello, I'm Caroline from Godfrey's Ear
Firstly, I would like to thank you so much for visiting my website. As a small business owner this really means a lot to me.
Please feel free to browse around, but if you need to ask a question please don’t hesitate to reach out to me: I am always happy to help you.

Why Belper?

I'm a Derbyshire girl, with strong ties to Belper. Throughout my life, apart from very recently, I have had close family living, working, and running businesses here. These days, although not actually in Belper, I do live nearby.

For a number of years I had a space as Godfrey's Ear in Derwentside Shopping Mill in Derwent Street. In February 2020, determined to grow the business, I found lovely premises on a farm near Brailsford, and that is where you can find me now.

What do I do?

Stag Minstrel chest of drawers

I paint and restyle quality pieces of furniture, creating beautiful pieces to suit today's homes using low VOC, eco-friendly products. I like to incorporate colour and pattern into my pieces: this could be a beautiful wallpaper or a fabulous stencil. I love dark neutrals and earth tones, but I will sometimes add a pop of vibrant colour for that surprise twist.

I offer a bespoke commission service. You may have a piece of furniture that has been handed down to you, or a piece that is no longer quite on-trend. Why part with it when it can be restyled for you to give it a new lease of life. Old is the new new!

When conditions allow, I run painting workshops in my studio at Brailsford. Set in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales, the studio is light-filled and it even has a balcony! It makes for a relaxing, informal and friendly environment to brush up on your painting skills.

I have a great range of furniture paints and decorative products. I love them and I am sure you will too. So, if you want to have a go at your very own upcycling, crafting or decorating project, I have got you covered.

I am always happy to help if you get stuck or need some advice. Please do feel free to call or message me.

I really hope that you find products here to inspire you.

How to find me

Directions

My studio is at Humble Bee View, set in a beautiful rural location near Brailsford in Derbyshire, in the middle of a triangle marked by Derby, Belper and Ashbourne.

From Belper, it should take you around 20 minutes. Head towards Ashbourne on the A517, turn left at Cross o'th'hands, then bear right towards Brailsford. Turn right near Mercaston into Alder Lane, then right again into Cuscas Lane.

Please note that if you put the postcode into your satnav, it will take you to a different farm on Cuscas Lane. Look for the 'Burton Shutts Farm' and 'Neil Ellis' signs at the gate.

There is plenty of free onsite parking.

Opening times

I'm usually there on weekdays (not Wednesday) between 11 am and 3.30 pm, and on Saturday from 11 am to 2 pm. The nature of a small business though is that I can't guarantee that, so I strongly recommend that you call ahead to make sure I'll be in (it'll also give me time to get the kettle on!).
