Commission and furniture restyling service

Choosing to have your furniture upcycled and restyled

Do you have a piece of furniture you have fallen out of love with, or an heirloom piece you have inherited from a loved one, that really doesn’t fit with your décor but you just can’t bear to part with?

I know only too well how painful it is to part with furniture that you have had in your home or owned by a family member who is no longer with you. I have recently experienced this process with my late mother’s belongings.

These pieces can often encapsulate powerful and sentimental memories from the past, snippets of happy times. With all our hearts we want to keep those memories alive, but in the present day these pieces are looking a little tired and worn. Their look has not altered from the day they were made, but, in contrast, our lives, tastes and style have all changed beyond recognition.

Is it now time for you to bring back some calm and alignment to this situation? Choosing to have your furniture painted and re-imagined is a sustainable and cost-effective solution to this common dilemma.

What you can expect from me

I offer a friendly and down-to-earth service.

I know how daunting it can be to entrust somebody to undertake work for you. You have a lot of doubts and a lot of questions.

I just want to put you at ease and let you know that I will explain the whole process to you from beginning to end.

If you haven’t got any ideas about colours or finishes or what is possible, that’s what I’m here for: to help you.

Choosing colours to paint your furniture

Picking a colour using the Fusion Fan Deck

I have a lovely range of colours for you to choose from. To help with this I have real paint colour charts for you to take away so you can see the colour exactly as it will be on your newly painted furniture.

I also offer painted sample sticks, which make it much easier when trying to narrow down colour choices. The added benefit is you are seeing the colours as they will appear in your home, in your light during the course of the day and into the evening.

I will of course be hands-on to help you and together we will work on your inspiration and ideas. If you’re not sure where to begin, don’t worry: I can help you with this.

Sometimes it can be difficult to make final decisions on decorative finishes. We can discuss the options, then what I find useful is to first paint the piece as this gives you more clarity making it much easier for you to visualise how the piece will look.

What you can expect from my work

As a furniture painting expert, I will professionally restyle and refinish your vintage furniture.

As your furniture facelift begins, the beauty treatment can only start by peeling back the years. Before I even pick up a paintbrush, I will fully prep your furniture. This means the piece is fully cleaned and sanded, all joints are checked and fixed, any cracks and holes are filled, and doors and drawers are checked to make sure they open and close with ease.

The paints and products I use are of the highest quality and, with the exception of sometimes essential stain-blocking primers, are all water-based and eco-friendly.

Aftercare

Every piece of my furniture leaves with a care pack, and you can of course contact me should you need to.

Collection and delivery of your furniture

Your furniture will be painted in my studio at Brailsford

Good light is essential for furniture painting. I have a bespoke painting studio with floor-to-ceiling windows which allow natural daylight to flood in. It has central heating for the colder months and chilly winter evenings.

In addition, as I have a commitment to being in the shop during opening times whenever possible, I’m unfortunately unable to offer an offsite commission service.

This includes items such as:

  • Large pieces of furniture that cannot be transported
  • Fitted wardrobes and cabinetry
  • Kitchens
  • Fire surrounds

I will keep you regularly updated on the progress of the work and once your restyled furniture is finished you are welcome to visit my studio to inspect it. Or, if you would prefer, I can take photographs and a video.

A new look for an old piece

Before and after picture of restyled chest of drawers

My client wanted a new look for her bedroom. She had purchased a painted chest of drawers some years earlier, and although the piece looked somewhat tired and a little dated it was still solid and practical.

I was asked to make the chest of drawers look smart and match the new look. The colour was matched to a plant pot that was being used as inspiration!

So pleased with the furniture Caroline has beautifully restored for us. From drab old fashioned pieces nobody would want in their home to beautiful stylish furniture to be proud of. The finish is immaculate and you would never know they are painted, not a brush stroke in sight.

So pleased we immediately found another piece for restoration we had thought of taking to the tip. Caroline breathes new life into furniture 😍

Rescued sideboard

I’ll let my client’s own words do the talking for this piece.

I saved my sideboard from being smashed up and put into a skip while helping a friend clear a house. I just loved it even in its original condition.

I’ve known Caroline for quite a while and always loved the amazing transformations that she has done. Rather than have a go myself and be disappointed with the results I contacted Caroline.

She was brilliant. We spent time at the studio going through all the different paints, colours and effects and looking at other completed pieces.

We had no doubt that Caroline would do an amazing job, but we were genuinely blown away by the finished piece. It is definitely the best piece of furniture we have ever owned.

I would highly recommend Caroline and we will definitely be contacting her soon for another piece.

A repeat commission from a lovely client

Before and after picture of restyled green bureau

My clients had just moved into their beautiful brand-new home and I was delivering three pieces of furniture they had commissioned me to paint. They asked if I would mind painting a lovely old bureau that had been in the husband’s family for many years.

I love hearing the back story of a piece and the fond memories it evokes. This is the little bureau where many hours were spent studying for O & A levels. When they married the little bureau moved in with them, seeing several house moves along the way, with children coming along, growing up and flying the nest.

A brand new chapter had begun in my clients lives and they felt it was time to give this little workhorse the makeover it truly deserved.

My brief was to give the bureau a simple and sympathetic makeover in dark green with a neutral contrasting colour in the writing area.
