Choosing to have your furniture upcycled and restyled
Do you have a piece of furniture you have fallen out of love with, or an heirloom piece you have inherited from a loved one, that really doesn’t fit with your décor but you just can’t bear to part with?
I know only too well how painful it is to part with furniture that you have had in your home or owned by a family member who is no longer with you. I have recently experienced this process with my late mother’s belongings.
These pieces can often encapsulate powerful and sentimental memories from the past, snippets of happy times. With all our hearts we want to keep those memories alive, but in the present day these pieces are looking a little tired and worn. Their look has not altered from the day they were made, but, in contrast, our lives, tastes and style have all changed beyond recognition.
Is it now time for you to bring back some calm and alignment to this situation? Choosing to have your furniture painted and re-imagined is a sustainable and cost-effective solution to this common dilemma.
What you can expect from me
I offer a friendly and down-to-earth service.
I know how daunting it can be to entrust somebody to undertake work for you. You have a lot of doubts and a lot of questions.
I just want to put you at ease and let you know that I will explain the whole process to you from beginning to end.
If you haven’t got any ideas about colours or finishes or what is possible, that’s what I’m here for: to help you.
Choosing colours to paint your furniture
I have a lovely range of colours for you to choose from. To help with this I have real paint colour charts for you to take away so you can see the colour exactly as it will be on your newly painted furniture.
I also offer painted sample sticks, which make it much easier when trying to narrow down colour choices. The added benefit is you are seeing the colours as they will appear in your home, in your light during the course of the day and into the evening.
I will of course be hands-on to help you and together we will work on your inspiration and ideas. If you’re not sure where to begin, don’t worry: I can help you with this.
Sometimes it can be difficult to make final decisions on decorative finishes. We can discuss the options, then what I find useful is to first paint the piece as this gives you more clarity making it much easier for you to visualise how the piece will look.
What you can expect from my work
As a furniture painting expert, I will professionally restyle and refinish your vintage furniture.
As your furniture facelift begins, the beauty treatment can only start by peeling back the years. Before I even pick up a paintbrush, I will fully prep your furniture. This means the piece is fully cleaned and sanded, all joints are checked and fixed, any cracks and holes are filled, and doors and drawers are checked to make sure they open and close with ease.
The paints and products I use are of the highest quality and, with the exception of sometimes essential stain-blocking primers, are all water-based and eco-friendly.
Aftercare
Every piece of my furniture leaves with a care pack, and you can of course contact me should you need to.
Collection and delivery of your furniture
As long as your furniture will fit into Monty, my Vauxhall Vivaro van, I offer a free collection and delivery service within a 10-mile radius of my painting studio in Brailsford.
Slightly further afield there will be a mileage-based charge.
Long distance, I can arrange collection and delivery via one of my trusted furniture couriers.
I take great care of your furniture for its journey: it is blanketed and secured to keep it snug and safe.
Your furniture will be painted in my studio at Brailsford
Good light is essential for furniture painting. I have a bespoke painting studio with floor-to-ceiling windows which allow natural daylight to flood in. It has central heating for the colder months and chilly winter evenings.
In addition, as I have a commitment to being in the shop during opening times whenever possible, I’m unfortunately unable to offer an offsite commission service.
This includes items such as:
- Large pieces of furniture that cannot be transported
- Fitted wardrobes and cabinetry
- Kitchens
- Fire surrounds
I will keep you regularly updated on the progress of the work and once your restyled furniture is finished you are welcome to visit my studio to inspect it. Or, if you would prefer, I can take photographs and a video.
