This workshop is ideal for beginners. It allows you the opportunity to learn about some creative painting techniques with ease and apply them to a small wooden crate. This will stand you in good stead for when you want to apply your newly found skills to future furniture and upcycling projects.

To get the very best out of the day I encourage you to try as many techniques as you can fit in on the day. If you don’t want to apply them all to your crate, I supply a practice board for you to have a trial run and practice on, as with the crate this is yours to take home with you and use as a reference point for your future projects.

This is a fun course where you can start painting straight away. There is no prep required in this workshop as the crates are new wood and all ready to go, but before we start work on our crates, I will give you a quick and handy overview of painting furniture, covering advice on the best products to use and best practices to put you in good stead for when you want to transition your new-found skills onto furniture.

Try as many techniques as you want! If you don’t want to throw them all at your crate, you can use a practice board, which you can also take home with you and use as a reference point for your future projects.

Painting a base coat, choose from a range of colours to suit your project
Using metallic paints, pigments, and gilding enamel
Applying texturing powder to your paint
Using a palette knife to add interest
Applying crackle glaze
Applying flat and raised stencils
Applying decoupage paper with colour blending
Dry brushing to add dimension
Ageing and distressing
Waxing with clear, dark, and decorative waxes

About my workshops

What will the day be like?

My classes are fun-filled and packed with hints and tips, they offer a great environment to relax, have some fun, learn a new skill, and meet new friends.

Numbers are kept to a maximum of 6 people so I can give each of you my full attention ensuring that you can get the very best out of the day.

Courses run from 10am to 4pm, with a short break for lunch. Arrive at 9.30 for a brew and a meet & greet.

Where are they held?

All classes are held at my light-filled studio set in a beautiful rural location less than 20 minutes from Derby, Belper and Ashbourne.

There is plenty of secure off-street parking on site.

Please note the studio has disabled access, however, it does have two floors. If you have any accessibility or disability requirements, please let me know in advance and I will do my very best to accommodate you.

What is included?

All tools, materials, and aprons are provided.

The price includes lunch and refreshments (please let me know of any dietary requirements in advance).

What do I need to bring?

Come armed with a notebook and a pen, because you won’t want to miss all those golden nuggets of information on the day.

Painting can be a messy old business so wear your old comfy casuals that you don’t mind if you get the odd splash of paint on. Also, wear safe, flat comfortable shoes.
