Fusion Stain and Finishing Oil (SFO) is an all-in-one product. It penetrates and conditions the wood, it stains the wood, and it protects against water, stains and scratches offering exceptional durability in high-traffic areas such as table tops, kitchen cabinets, and even flooring.

Fusion Stain and Finishing Oil can be used on new and stripped wood surfaces, painted surfaces, and over your favourite Fusion Mineral Paint to add extra protection and sheen.

Use the Natural colour over Fusion Mineral Paint colours to increase the sheen and offer superior durability. Or, to create a glaze effect, apply one of the pigmented colours and wipe off immediately (as unlike over wood it won't soak into the surface).

Fusion SFO is highly concentrated in pigment, so a little really does go a long way. This 237ml container will cover the same area as 1 litre of comparable stains.

Any of the SFO shades can be custom mixed. Natural SFO can be used to dilute any of the colours in the range.

Please note that Fusion Stain and Finishing Oil (SFO) is an oil-based product and may yellow over time. If you want to add a top coat to white and light paint, I would instead recommend Fusion Ultra Guard or Fusion Tough Coat, which are both water-based, durable, non-yellowing alternatives.

What is Fusion Stain and Finishing Oil?

SFO is a professional-grade, highly pigmented all-in-one solution that serves as a wood conditioner, stain, and durable top coat. This unique combination of natural oils and resins penetrates deep into the wood fibres, staining, sealing and conditioning them simultaneously. It contains as little solvent as possible to minimise VOC levels and reduce the product's odour.

Can you paint over Fusion Stain and Finishing Oil?

Yes, you can paint over Fusion Stain and Finishing Oil. Over one coat on raw wood once it is thoroughly dry. If multiple coats, allow 10 days before painting, making sure the SFO is thoroughly dry. If possible test in an inconspicuous area

My SFO isn’t drying as quickly as it should. What should I do?

SFO can take longer to dry than the guide on the tin. This can occur in hot and humid weather conditions. If you can, take the piece outside in the fresh air: that will speed up the process. If the project is fixed, open as many windows as possible to get the air flowing.

Can SFO be used on outside projects?

No, Fusion SFO is not suitable for outside projects.

What is the cure time of SFO?

The standard cure time of Fusion SFO is 10-12 days.

What is the finish of SFO?

One coat of SFO will give you a matt finish. Build up the sheen with additional coats, (use Natural if you don’t want to intensify the colour).

Do I need to top coat over Fusion SFO?

No, SFO has a built-in resin topcoat. I you feel you want added protection, you can apply a final coat of Natural.

Is Fusion SFO food-safe?

No, Fusion SFO is not food-safe and would against using this on surfaces that come into direct contact with food, such as chopping boards, salad bowls, wooden spoons, etc.

How do I care for and clean surfaces Fusion Stain and Finishing Oil surfaces?

For general dusting, use a soft microfibre cloth. For a deeper clean, use a damp microfibre cloth, and use only the mildest of soaps. Wipe up spills immediately. Use a coaster where applicable. Don’t use abrasives, harsh chemicals, degreasers, or cleaning wipes as many of these contain bleach.

Can I remove Fusion Stain and Finishing Oil?

Yes, you can remove Fusion Stain and Finishing Oil. Use a mineral spirit to break it down. For more details on this see my blog on how to remove wax before painting.

Paint shop shipping FAQ

What delivery services do you use?

We only ship within the United Kingdom.

All orders are sent via Royal Mail.

'Standard delivery' means Royal Mail Tracked 48. The expected delivery timescale for this is 2–3 working days.

'Express delivery' means Royal Mail Tracked 24. This is expected to arrive in 1–2 working days.

How much will delivery cost?

The charge for delivery is based on the service (standard or express) and on the weight of the parcel.

Delivery starts at £3.95 for standard, and £4.95 for express. As a guide, if your order is heavier than two 500ml pots of paint then it will probably move up to a higher price band.

When will my order be dispatched?

Orders placed before midday on weekdays (other than bank holidays) will be dispatched on the same day.

Orders received after that will be dispatched the next working day.

If, for any reason, this will not be possible, this will be clearly shown in a banner message at the top of the site.

You will notified by email when your order has been dispatched.

Whilst I make every effort to spot obvious errors, I cannot be held responsible for missing parcels if you have not provided me with complete, correct address information.

If you need your order more quickly, or have any other special requirements, please do let me know. For example, you may have missed the cutoff for same-day dispatch, or you may want your order to be tracked, or signed for, or to be guaranteed next day.

How are orders packaged?

Small, non-fragile items such as roller sleeves or paintbrushes are generally sent in padded envelopes.

Other items are carefully packed in sturdy cardboard boxes and clearly marked as fragile.

I take great pride in the quality of our packing, and so far (touch wood!) I have had no instances where orders have suffered damage in transit.
